Perc6i Nightmare
I am trying to Install Windows 7, Windows 2008, or Windows XP on my New NAS System PC.
Specs Intel Pentium Dual Core 2GHZ
Gskill 4GB DDR2
Asus P5KPL-VM MATX Motherboard
Dell PERC6i (8xWestern Digital 1TB Raid Edition Hard Drives in RAID6)
Silicon Image 3512 PCI SATA Controller
Western Digital 500GB Raid Edition Boot Drive
I am trying to install Windows XP on this system. First install, XP wont see my Hard Drives, I quickly ran NLITE to integrate raid and sata drivers. On first boot I get BSOD. Now lets try Windows 2008 R2 RC 2, this OS boot fine, sees my PERC6i array, but wont see my Boot drive. If I take out the Perc6i and install the OS on Boot Drive while plugged into the motherboard controller it boots fine, but when re install PERC6i the system says no boot device. Next my options are Install using the motherboard sata controller, then install the Silicon Image drivers, install PERC6i drivers, and move the boot drive to Silicon Image controller. This seems to have worked fine. Exact same thing happens with Windows 7.
Next I am trying to integrate the raid and sata drivers using Vlite into Windows 2008 install DVD.

Edit. Vlite wont work. I integrated the Silicon Image and Perc drivers using Nlite to XP cd, the XP boots sees drive formats and then goes from there. On first reboot wont boot, no system drive.
I tried Windows 7, and selected insert drivers, I inserted usb with Silicon Image drivers and seers my drive now, but fails to install.
Right now, my only solution, unplug, Perc6i and Silicon Image install Windows 7 using onboard sata, next install Silicon image card back, install drivers, and move the boot drive to Silicon Image card. Last install Perc6i.Lets hope this works.
